‘Dead To Me’ Star Christina Applegate Reveals ‘Tough’ Diagnosis
Dead To Me star, Christina Applegate revealed she has multiple sclerosis. The 49-year-old actress and director took to Twitter to share the diagnosis. She has a history of health issues. Luckily, Applegate has a great support system to help get her through this difficult time.
The Dead To Me Star’s Health Struggles
Viewers may recognize Applegate from her breakthrough role as Kelly Bundy on the long-running sitcom, Married…With Children. From there, she had roles in movies like Anchorman and The Sweetest Thing. The actress also garnered an Emmy Award for her portrayal as Jennifer Aniston’s sister on Friends. Yet, with all of her success, she had her own private struggles.
In 2008, Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer. According to Oprah.com, Christina kept that diagnosis very private. “It’s hard to live quietly. I went through five weeks of work without telling anyone that this was going on in my life.” Her mother is a breast cancer survivor so Christina was extremely proactive with her health, starting mammograms at age thirty.
Learning she had the BRCA gene, she underwent a double mastectomy. The cancer was only in one breast but she opted to eliminate as much risk as possible. Cancer-free, she went on to continue a successful career and a happy life, starring in Dead To Me. Now, thirteen years later, Christina is revealing she has multiple sclerosis, a disease that affects the central nervous system.
Taking On A Tough Road Ahead
The announcement of Applegate’s diagnosis was made by the actress, via Twitter. She addressed it has been a strange journey and a tough road. Furthermore, she acknowledged she has been supported by others who have the same condition. However, she is asking for privacy during this time while she figures it all out.
Again, Christina does not have to go through this journey alone. Not only does she have her husband, Martyn LeNoble, and their daughter, Sadie but she also has Selma Blair. The two co-starred in The Sweetest Thing together. Sadly, Blair was diagnosed with MS in 2018 and has been raising awareness ever since.
As for Dead To Me, the third and final season was filming but has since been halted, according to a statement by Netflix. Moreover, CBS and Netflix released a joint statement this morning in regards to the actress: “We love and support Christina and respect her privacy as she takes the time and space she needs in this moment.”
TV Shows Ace sends Christina well-wishes and cannot wait for her to be back on the Dead To Me set.
