‘Days Of Our Lives’ Melissa Reeves Back As Jennifer Horton?
Are Days of Our Lives fans in for a holiday treat? There is speculation that Melissa Reeves could return to her role as Jennifer Rose Horton on the NBC soap. What do we know about the rumors?
Why Melissa Reeves Left DOOL
When Days of Our Lives resumed production in September of 2020, it was without a familiar face. Melissa Reeves chose not to return to the daytime sudser after a prolonged hiatus. The NBC soap went on its regular production break in late 2019. However, then the coronavirus pandemic struck, delaying a return to production.
Even with the long delay, DOOL was the only soap still airing new episodes during the 2020 lockdown. The other three remaining soaps ran out of new episodes and had to dip in the archives.
As fans of Missy know, she lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, soap alum Scott Reeves. When working on the soap, which films in California, she travels back and forth between states.
However, when production resumed on DOOL, she didn’t feel safe traveling. So, NBC tapped soap vet Cady McClain (Dixie, All My Children) to temporarily play Jennifer.
It was during Cady’s tenure that Jennifer found out that Jack (Matthew Ashford) had another daughter, Gwen (Emily O’Brien.)
Cady McClain took home a Daytime Emmy for her guest appearance on Days of Our Lives.
What’s She Been Up To Since Exit?
One reason Melissa Reeves didn’t feel comfortable traveling is her grandchildren. During the global pandemic, Missy and Scott Reeves became grandparents for the first AND second time. Their daughter, Emily, and daughter-in-law, Olivia, gave birth a month apart in 2020. Emily is now pregnant with her second child, due this fall.
Is Melissa Reeves Returning to Days of Our Lives?
Days of Our Lives viewers may get a present around the Horton family tree this Christmas. Rumors are circulating that Melissa Reeves will return to the soap as Jennifer Horton. The news was first reported by Jack and Jennifer Instagram fan page @jnjclassicdays.
TV Line reached out to sources with the NBC show. The sources confirmed that Melissa Reeves is considering a return to the soap she’s called home off-and-on since 1985.
The return would coincide with the beloved DOOL tradition of Horton family members gathering for Christmas. The ornament-hanging episode is one of the most cherished traditions among DOOL fans.
