‘Argylle’ Lands On Apple: Stars Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Dua Lipa Acting Debut
Ready for an action-packed thriller, with “the world’s greatest spy,” in a “globe-trotting adventure”? Then get ready for Argylle, the big-screen movie that is headed to Apple TV in 2022. Based on a book by first-time author Ellie Conway, this promises to be a spy thriller like no other.
Starring in Argylle is Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Superman), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World: Dominion, Rocketman), Bryan Cranston (Malcolm In The Middle, Breaking Bad), Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Moon), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone), John Cena (Psych: The Movie, Peacemaker), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Secret Invasion), and in her acting debut, Dua Lipa.
What do we know about this upcoming movie?
Apple TV Makes Deal For Argylle
Apple TV scored big and paid big bucks to get director Matthew Vaughn’s highly anticipated movie, Argylle. That means this new genre of spy movie will be released on the same day, worldwide. Moreover, Dua Lipa will be recording original music, including the title track and score, for the original movie, in addition to her acting debut.
According to Deadline, Vaughn was quite thrilled, as he gushed about the project. “I’m thrilled to team with Apple and bring the most compelling spy thriller I’ve ever read to the only streaming service that can create a franchise of this scale and quality for global audiences to experience.” They plan to make three movies in the series. However, they have yet to announce the roles each actor will play.
Argylle has been in pre-production and should start filming anytime soon. The star-studded cast offers a cornucopia of talent that can do both drama, and comedy. In addition, two of the leads, Henry Cavill, and John Cena are very buff. The costume team will have a challenge fitting and tailoring garments for the bulky leads.
Where Can You Read Argylle Book?
One of the big Argylle mysteries is the book itself. Ellie Conway is the author. However, the story itself is a huge question mark.
We do know that this is the story of a unique super spy. Back in July, Vaughn told Deadline, “When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the ’50s.” He then promised, “This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”
Ready to read the book? Well, not so fast. Currently, it is available for pre-order on the Amazon U.K. site. However, it is not available for preorder anywhere else in the world.
In addition, it will not be released until September 29, 2022. We can assume that the movie will be released around the same time. But, those fans who want to read the book first will need to wait 13 months.

Director Mathew Vaughn, Henry Cavill Connections
Early in Henry Cavill’s career, he had a bit role in Argylle director Matthew Vaughn’s Stardust. Based on a Neil Gaiman novel, 24-year-old Cavill portrayed Humphrey, Victoria’s (Sienna Miller) boyfriend.
In addition, both Vaughn and Cavill attended Stowe School in Buckingham England. However, their paths were unlikely to cross, as the director is 12 years older. This pricey, private school had a good drama program that both director and actor seemed to benefit from.
It is not clear if Matthew Vaughn had any troubles at the prestigious school. However, Henry Cavill infamously suffered being away from his family in Jersey. His mother asked him to stop calling every day. Moreover, it probably didn’t help that he was saddled with the nickname “Fat Cavill.” Things quickly changed for the British actor.
Vaughn, who married Supermodel Claudia Schiffer in 2002, takes his surname from Robert Vaughn, who he long thought was his father. Turns out, his father was George De Vera Drummond, King George VI’s godson. That was Queen Elizabeth’s father!
Lastly, Robert Vaughn portrayed Napoleon Solo in the television version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., for four years. Henry Cavill portrayed Napoleon Solo in Guy Ritchie’s film version of the classic 60s show, released back in 2015. Want another connection? Matthew Vaughn was Guy Ritchie’s best man when he married Madonna in 2000.
