Netflix’s ‘Hache’ Season 3: Canceled Or Renewed?

Will there be a Season 3 of Netflix Original series Hache

Those that have watched Seasons 1 and 2 of the Netflix crime thriller series Hache are waiting to hear if there will be a Season 3. While the storyline of Season 2 was made ready to continue to Season 3, this isn’t going to happen. Netflix has now officially confirmed that Hache will not return for a third season on the streaming channel.

Crime thriller series Hache

The Netflix Original series Hache is a crime thriller, inspired by real events. It went on to become one of the highest viewer-rated Spanish language series on Netflix around the world. Season 1 of Hache premiered in November 2019 and was almost immediately renewed for Season 2. The second season was originally slated to drop in 2020 but only happened in February 2021.

Some Spanish outlets were sure the show would return for Season 3, with some even predicting a 2022/2023 release date. However, that won’t be happening.

After Season 1, the show’s creator Verónica Fernández spoke in an interview with Serielizados. She said she thinks the Hache universe is great and that they want to keep exploring. Fernández said that they had many ideas for the series and were eager to see if viewers would get hooked. She believed that it was the viewers that would give them the second and third seasons.

Why was the series canceled?

While the series was popular with viewers, it looks like those involved in the series have already moved on. Carlos Lopez Garcia was one of the main writers for the show and moved on to a new project in July 2020. There he will be the creator. This was at a time when the second season of Hache was coming to an end in either pre-production or production stages. However, it isn’t only Carlos who had moved on to other projects. Fernández originally brought the show from Weekend Studios but is now employed full-time by Netflix and involved in other projects.

As noted by What’s on Netflix, the data for Season 2 of Hache reveals that it only hit the top 10s in a few countries. Spain had the series in the top 10 for the longest period, but it dropped out after 13 days.

What was Hache about?

The series revolves around the drug trafficking world in Barcelona of the 196os. Hache stars Adriana Ugarte as Helena, along with Eduardo Noriega as Alejandro Vinuesa and Javier Rey as Malpica.

The first season ran for eight episodes, each an hour in length. Season 2 premiered on February 5, 2021, and ran for six episodes. The series received a nomination in the 8th MiM Series Awards in Spain for Best Drama Series but did not win. However, Javier Rey went on to win an award as Best Drama Actor.

Season 1 and 2 of Hache are still available for streaming on Netflix. What are your thoughts about there not being a Hache Season 3? Let us know in the comment section below. Make sure to come back to TV Shows Ace for more Netflix news.
