‘DWTS’ Pro Gleb Savchenko Has Some Exciting News — What Is It?
Dancing With The Stars fans love watching Russian dancer Gleb Savchenko grace the stage every year. Now, the 37-year-old has some really exciting news to share. He recently gave an exclusive interview to E! to discuss the details.
As of July 28, 2021, Gleb Savchenko is a citizen of the United States.
“It’s a dream come true,” he told E! “I grew up in Russia, in Moscow, and I’d always just read [about the States]. It was like an impossible dream for me to live in America and one day become an American citizen.”
He also posted some fun Instagram photos to celebrate the occasion.
“Living the American Dream! I’m so thrilled to finally become a US Citizen after years of waiting. Dream come true ❤️ 🇺🇸,” the dancer wrote.
Gleb Savchenko is so excited about all the benefits that come with being an American citizen
And that’s not all — becoming an American citizen means that Gleb will also get an American passport too. He tells E! he’s really wanted one for a long time and it would make his life so much easier. International travel will be much easier and he can now get American passports for his daughters, Olivia and Zlata, too. He also plans to bring his parents to live with him in the United States.
“I sent a picture to my dad, and he kind of got a little emotional,” Gleb went on to say. “They’re not getting younger, so I was like, it’d be a great opportunity for them at some point to come live here, too. I cannot even describe how awesome it is. I am so, so happy.”
Gleb Savchenko first came to the United States in 2004. He had to leave for a while, but returned in 2013. In case you didn’t know, the citizenship test requires an applicant to live in the United States for five consecutive years. While living here, Gleb took some American history courses to prepare for the big test.
Many immigrants make up the DWTS cast
And Gleb isn’t the only DWTS pro to become an American citizen in recent days. Married couple Sasha Farber and Emma Slater also took the test and passed last year.
Not everyone publically shares their immigration status, but the majority of Dancing With The Stars cast members are actually from other countries.
Like Gleb, Season 29 Artem Chigvintsev was born in Russia. Artem moved to the United States for his pro-dancing career and gained his citizenship in 2014. Pasha Pashkov is also originally from Russia.
Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy hail from Ukraine while Maks’ wife Peta Murgatroyd is from New Zealand. Emma Slater is from the U.K. while her husband Sasha was born in Russia and then moved to Australia as a small child. Sharna Burgess is also from Australia. Gleb’s best friend Keo Motsepe is from South Africa.
