Kevin Costner, Star Of ‘Yellowstone’, Is Answering Questions From Fans
Kevin Costner is one of the most beloved actors of our time. Although many Costner fans know him from movies such as Waterworld, Bull Durham, or Draft Day, many fans know him as John Dutton from the hit television series, Yellowstone. Born in Lynwood, California on January 18, 1955, Costner has spent the last 40 years acting in everything from television shows to big-budget blockbusters.
How Costner Got Started
Costner attended college at California State University where he majored in business. Even though he is majoring in business, he has a passion for acting. He begins attending acting classes five days a week after his regular college courses.
After obtaining his degree in 1978, Costner entered the workforce. However, he happened to meet award-winning actor Richard Burton on a plane. Burton convinced Costner to follow his dream. Costner dropped everything and moved to Hollywood where he worked several jobs while pursuing his acting.
Costner’s big break came in 1983 when he landed a small role in the hit movie The Big Chill. His scenes were cut, but he made an impression on director Lawrence Kasdan. Kasdan would later cast him in the role of Jake in the 1985 movie Silverado alongside Kevin Kline as well as Danny Glover.
Field of Dreams
One of the most popular movies Kevin Costner has ever starred in is the 1989 movie Field of Dreams. Costner plays Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella. While in his cornfield, Ray begins hearing a voice say “If you build it, he will come.” Ray interprets this message as meaning he must turn a portion of his cornfield into a baseball field. The spirits of Shoeless Joe Jackson, played by Ray Liotta, and seven other Chicago White Sox players begin appearing on the field playing baseball.
Ray believes he has accomplished what he was meant to do. However, the voice continues to tell him “If you build it, he will come.” Ray then sets out to understand what the message means. Legendary actor James Earl Jones makes an appearance in the film as Terence Mann who helps Ray on his journey.
The movie ends with Costner playing catch with his father as cars start driving up to the field to “watch the game”.
