‘Sex And The City’ May Soon Return, Without One Star, On HBO Max
Sex and the City fans may finally get their wish. It appears that the third Darren Star movie is returning. However, it will be in a different form. In addition, with a reduced cast. This could be the early Christmas gift for SATC fans have asked many years.
Sex And The City Could Be Back
Looks like Santa is bringing a present to the Sex and the City fans, who have been waiting a full decade. According to TVLine, the third movie project has now morphed into a HBO Max series. In addition, they are very close to closing the deal. This is indeed big news. Only a year ago, the proposed third movie was scrapped and everyone believed that this was truly the end of the series.
Firstly, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are on board with this project. They will reprise their roles as Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda. But, what about Samantha? It appears that actress Kim Cattrall will not be joining in this new reunion that they do not want to call a “reboot.”
Subsequently, this will be a “limited series.” Also, there is no information on the timeline. Will there be a time jump to the present time?
There have certainly been a lot of rumors about a SATC reunion movie, but there has always been one actress who made it clear she would not return. That is Kim Cattrall. In 1997, while speaking to Piers Morgan, The Mannequin star suggested that they recast this role with a “non-white actress.” This show has long been criticized for not being diverse, and she felt Samantha could continue on with a recast.
Moreover, she also stated that SJP could have been “nicer.” She was alluding to some of the rumors about strife within the show.
Kim Cattrall ‘Lucky’ To Be Excluded From SATC
What Does Kim Cattrall now think of being excluded from the new Sex and The City project? According to US Magazine, who referred to the December 23 interview, on the Women’s Prize for Fiction podcast, Cattrall is just fine with not being part of this revival.
Cattrall had some positive things to say. “It was a lot of fun and I loved it and being in new territory is always exciting. I felt like we were.” But, she was very firm that she is not returning. “I’m lucky enough to have the choice, not that I haven’t worked for it. I have.”

Sex And The City Producer Has Full Plate
Darren Star created Sex and the City. This HBO show was based on Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name. The series ran for six seasons, from 1998 to 2010. There were 98 episodes and two movies.
Currently, Darren Star has a lot on his plate. Now, he is in the midst of filming Younger Season 7. The TVLand series delayed production. But, the worldwide pandemic altered those plans. Nonetheless, this final season should finish shooting in early 2021.
In addition, he is developing a Younger spinoff, with Hilary Duff, that continues Kelsey’s storyline.
Next, Darren Star has another worldwide hit on his hands. His Netflix series, Emily In Paris has been renewed for Season 2. Moreover, according to Newsweek, the streaming service has announced that it is theirs second most watched series, sandwiched between number one’s The Queen’s Gambit and third place’s series, Lucifer.
The good news is that Star is a prolific writer who can spin many plates at the same time. Moreover, fans will be very happy to be reunited with Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, even if they are losing out on Samantha.
