It turns out the adorable green alien, Baby Yoda, on The Mandalorian does have a real name. On The Jedi, the latest episode in Season 2, fans were thrilled to hear his real name. While up until now he has been known as Baby Yoda or The Child, it turns out his real name is Grogu.
Baby Yoda and The Mandalorian
Fans didn’t only find out that Baby Yoda’s real name was Grogu, however. The latest episode also revealed that he used to live on Coruscant. He was in training at the Jedi Temple until he had to go into hiding when the Empire came to power.
It was Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) who revealed Baby Yoda’s true name. Tano said that Grogu’s memory went “dark” once he went into hiding. This led her character to decide not to train him. He had so much anger built up inside him from many years in exile. Rather than training him, Tano suggested Mando (Pedro Pascal) should take him from the Jedi Temple on Tython. Once Baby Yoda was taken from the temple, it was decided that they would see if any of the remaining Jedi would take him.

In an interview with People, Pascal explained that when he saw an illustration of the beloved character, he immediately wanted to star in the series. He said, the minute he met Baby Yoda, he was so smitten that he was “cooing a little bit” on set.
Pascal continued, saying he would have conversations with Baby Yoda as he would with his toys as a child. He said it has everything to do with the amount of work producers have put into it. Pascal added that Grogu is a “very, very special creation” and it feels like that when you see it in person.
