Isaiah Washington spoke out against his former Grey’s Anatomy co-star, Katherine Heigl, via his Twitter account on Monday night. The actor posted a photo of Katherine as he called her out for trying to silence his voice over a decade ago.

“This woman once proclaimed that I should ‘never’ be allowed to speak publicly again. The world agreed with her proclamation back then and protested for my job and my head in 65 languages. I wish I was on Twitter in 2007, because I will NEVER stop exercising my free speech.”

Isaiah Washington reignites feud with Katherine Heigl

According to Entertainment Tonight, Isaiah played the role of Dr. Preston Burke on the show from 2005 to 2007. The show was embroiled in controversy when they fired the actor after Katherine, who played Dr. Izzie Stevens, alleged that he made a homophobic slur against their fellow co-star, T.R. Knight.

Following the situation, Isaiah Washington spoke out about the incident during 2007 Golden Globes. He claimed that he never made any inappropriate comments towards his co-star. His denial prompted Katherine Heigl to declare that he “needs to just not speak in public.”

After fans began to respond on his tweet, Isaiah furthered his statement via the comments section.

“I’ve learned that all money ain’t good money and no amount of money can replace your dignity and integrity. Some call it living by your principles.”

Katherine Heigl has yet to address Isaiah Washington’s social media statements. However, a source close to the actress told E! News that she still stands by her actions back in 2007.

“Katherine stood up for her close friend twice when Isaiah publicly outed him and called him a f—-t. That’s hate talk, not free speech. She is proud that she stood up for him. Katherine is and always will be an advocate and ally to the LGBTQ community.”

The actor did reappear on Grey’s Anatomy after the incident

In the months following the incident, Isaiah made a formal apology to T.R. and appeared in a PSA for GLAAD, which aired during an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. He was later fired from the series. When asked how he thought the situation may impact his career he spoke bluntly.

“I can only apologize so many times. I can only accept so much responsibility. All the players involved have taken care of what we needed to take care of in-house—and the media took it in a different direction. I hope that everyone is happy for the outcome for Isaiah, but Isaiah will go on and do what I love to do. And I have to go about the business of letting people know what’s written about me is not the truth. I’m merely an actor, a husband, and a father who’s trying to do a great job and be very grateful and understanding that I’m in a very privileged position.”

Years after his firing, Isaiah Washington returned to Grey’s Anatomy to reprise the role of Preston Burke. He shared scenes with his one-time love interest Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). During the episode, he offered his ex-fiancé a dream job at a hospital in Switzerland. Cristina ended up taking the job, which effectively wrote the character off of the show.
