Jeannie Mai Reveals Some Updates Post-Surgery
After Jeannie Mai suddenly left Dancing With The Stars this week, fans grew worried. The Holey Moley star developed epiglottitis and required emergency surgery. Unfortunately, that meant she had to withdraw from the competition immediately.
“It saddens me that I will not be able to continue with the competition on DWTS. My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery,” Jeannie told Us Weekly after her exit. “I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here. The last several weeks have been an amazing learning experience. I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come.”
But luckily, she’s on the mend now. She recently posted a photo on her Instagram story to update fans. Jeannie is still in the hospital for now, but at least she’s up and walking around.
Jeannie Mai’s Situation Could Have Been Fatal
Earlier this week, Jeannie Mai shared a photo on Instagram shortly after her surgery. She was surrounded by balloons, but in bed and seemed very tired. A member of her care team reportedly said that Jeannie’s throat would have closed up if she waited any longer to seek treatment. Fans will definitely miss seeing her on Dancing With The Stars, but health always comes first.
“I would never imagine ever having to write this, but I made it safely out of my emergency surgery. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nasseri who identified my potentially life-threatening condition. What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days,” she captioned the photo. Hardly any DWTS castmates knew anything was wrong, but the situation grew serious very quickly.
Everyone Wishes The Real Hostess The Best
Many people wished Jeannie the best. But her former DWTS partner, Brandon Armstrong, was probably the most supportive.
“JEANNIE! I’m so sorry this happened to you! You don’t deserve it!” Brandon wrote in an Instagram post of his own. “Your journey on this show was so special so unique and so inspiring! I loved EVERY SINGLE WEEK that we got to go through this together!”
The rest of the season won’t be the same without Jeannie Mai, but everyone is really happy to learn she is recovering. Hopefully, she can return to acting and hosting very soon.
Dancing With The Stars will be back on Monday night for an all new episode. Last week, Chrishell Stause went home. Who do you think will be the next to leave the competition? Let us know what you think in the comments.
