‘Alaska The Last Frontier’ Exclusive: Kilcher Clan Keeps Going Despite COVID, Weather Extremes and Injuries

One thing is for sure, coronavirus cannot keep a good Kilcher down. The new season of Alaska The Last Frontier is coming back to Discovery in October.

For nearly a century, the Kilcher clan has survived the terrain and brutal weather of Alaska.

For three generations of Kilchers all spawned from immigrants Yule and Ruth Kilcher, the couple brought their old world perspective to this harsh new world and their legacy of living the pioneer way of life still thrives.

This year will be like no other in Alaska, as fires are consuming the backcountry and the COVID issues are also affecting the entire cast.

This is a scary season for the Kilcher clan and in TV Shows Ace exclusive preview, you can see that injuries and weather are driving the action for the entire family.

What to expect on Alaska The Last Frontier

The homestead is put to the test as fires rage in the wooded lands, and one of the cast members appear to succumb to an illness and requires hospitalization. And Jane Kilcher is still adept at catching a fish.

We are now into the landmark 10th season as the Kilcher family will have to dig deep to overcome a number of challenges.

From the warm months of summer they face fire, and the cooler fall brings more fears that the global pandemic is not sparing remote Alaska.

These hearty Homer natives who are the kin of Yule and Ruth Kilcher of Switzerland now must work together to ensure that they can continue to survive and thrive on the homestead that Yule established 80 years ago.

The unpredictable way of life for the Kilchers is always a fascinating study in resilience. Now life on the homestead is far from boring and as the Covid-19 pandemic hits Alaska, the Kilchers must protect and adapt like never before.

Changes are afoot as their film crews were evacuated, and the Kilchers stepped up to the challenge and continued to self-film their lives and the day-to-day mayhem of the homestead, and we see the family in a new light and perspective.

Discovery says:

This season, with hunting off the homestead put on hold during the pandemic, Jane works to help fill the family’s freezer with fish and becomes the main provider of meat this summer. And after seeing so many locals hit hard economically, Eve plants a massive summer garden that is large enough to supply both the homestead and Homer’s food bank with fresh fruits and vegetables. Meanwhile, August takes the opportunity to follow in his grandfather Yule’s footsteps as a filmmaker and document this unprecedented time on camera.

This season life is odd and hard

Covid-19 has really thrown a wrench into the lives of the Kilchers. Together they work to overcome other difficulties as well.

As Atz Sr. plans to rebuild the first cabin his family ever lived in on the homestead, he has health scares and must stop and sideline this important project.

Atz Lee devotes the summer to building a new off-grid cabin in the backcountry, but he is far from down with PTSD from his life-threatening fall several years ago.

Helping Atz Lee with both the build and his PTSD is his 19-year-old son, Etienne, who rose to the occasion and helped out.

Otto, Charlotte and their 23-year-old son August must finish some cattle drives during the pandemic, as well as an emergency on Kilcher road after a rainstorm threatens to wash out the only passage to the homestead.

And Eivin, with his wife Eve and two young children at home, suffers a terrible laceration and must be rushed to an emergency doctor for help.

This year, for the first time ever, the outside world comes crashing into the homestead, and the Kilchers rally to protect their way of life for the future.
