It’s hard to believe, but Laura Wright has been in the soap opera industry for almost 30 years! She got her start in 1991 as Ally on Loving. She’s been steadily playing Carly on General Hospital since 2005!

Laura Wright marked her milestone 50th birthday this year by donning nothing but her birthday suit and some undies. Her boyfriend of several years, GH co-star Wes Ramsey, paid tribute to his lady love with a sweet post.

Laura Wright’s Long Soap Career

Laura Wright (neé Sisk) was born in Maryland in 1970. She won over soap audiences with her role as Ally on Loving and The City. When Loving was cancelled in 1995, it was reworked as The City. One of Laura Wright’s first storylines on Loving was a teenage romance with Matt (Eric Woodall.) The second half of this YouTube clip shows a VERY young Laura Wright during her Loving days.

The City was cancelled after just two years, but Laura Wright wasn’t unemployed for long! She quickly found her way to Springfield as Cassie on Guiding Light. Cassie turned out to be the previously unknown sister of a MAJOR character – Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer.)

In 2005, Laura Wright announced she was leaving Guiding Light for the role of Carly on GH. She was the fourth actress to play Carly, bravely filling the shoes of soap favorite Sarah Brown, the original Carly.

Aside from Sarah Brown, actresses Jennifer Bransford and Tamara Braun also played Carly. While fans were divided on Tamara Braun, they united in their dislike of Jennifer Bransford in the role. In fact, Laura Wright replaced Jennifer Bransford after just five months.

Fans quickly warmed up to Laura Wright’s take on Carly. And now they can’t imagine anyone else playing the role.

Laura Wright Dishes on Her Dream Storyline for Carly, Filming GH Post-COVID

General Hospital recently resumed production after the pandemic shut down television studios. Laura Wright spoke to TV Insider about what it’s like filming with safety precautions.

While the actress is glad to be back to work, she said it is “challenging.” She reveals that the cast and crew are not allowed to hug. Additionally, the masks must stay on through “every dress rehearsal” until taping.

Additionally, the makeup room has “plexi-glass in between” the chairs. As a result, it is difficult to be social, she says.

She also told the outlet that about her dream storyline for Carly. As GH fans know, Carly’s husband, Sonny, is in the mob. Like Brenda (Vanessa Marcil) before her, Carly often tries to get Sonny to leave the mob.

However, Laura Wright thinks Carly should become a true “mobster’s wife,” complete with brandishing a gun.

Carly might have some competition for Sonny in the future. Actress Kim Delaney is joining the show in a mystery role.
