Derek Hough Returning to ‘DWTS’ As…
Dancing With The Stars isn’t done with the surprises for Season 29! Hours after the announced the official Season 29 contestants, they teased that pro dancer Derek Hough would be returning in some capacity.
The announcement detailing his return came on Tuesday, September 8. What role will Derek take on for DWTS 29?
Fans Thought Derek Would Step In For Judge Len Goodman
Even before the DWTS celebrities announcement, fans wondered if head judge Len Goodman would return. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, he is currently in England. New host Tyra Banks confirmed to Us Weekly last week that Len was a question mark for Season 29. She did say that the show hopes to “incorporate” Len into the show somehow.
However, fans felt it was almost a sure thing that Derek Hough would temporarily replace Len Goodman as a judge. Were the fans right?
ABC Reveals Derek Hough’s Role on DWTS 29
Fans got it right! The network made another announcement on Good Morning America on Tuesday. No, it wasn’t the pro pairings. Those likely won’t be revealed until the premiere next week.
After winning six Mirrorball Trophies, Derek Hough is taking to the other side of the judges’ table! He revealed on Good Morning America that he will be a judge for the upcoming season. However, nothing was announced regarding Len Goodman’s role in Season 29, except that he will be involved somehow.
The professional dancer promises to be a “fair and fun” judge to his former colleagues. He notes that his focus will be on the stars, not the pro dancers. He hopes to “inspire” the celebrities to improve their dancing skills.
Get those paddles ready!

Fans Are NOT Loving Tyra Banks as Host
Change is hard, especially after so many years. Fans were absolutely SHOCKED this summer when ABC unceremoniously fired Tom Bergeron as host of DWTS. Erin Andrews was also shown the door. The network is taking the show in a “new direction” by handing over hosting duties to former America’s Next Top Model host Tyra Banks. And fans do not like it.
Many fans are continuing to threaten to boycott this season of DWTS. In fact, every time ABC releases a new promo for the upcoming season, fans revolt. They simply do not like Tyra or the way she appears to hog the attention.
What do you think about Derek’s return to the show? Will it make you tune in, despite the host change? Scroll down to the comments and chime in your thoughts.
