‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Resumes Production, Ellen Pompeo Teases Content
It’s been a long, hard summer for Grey’s Anatomy fans. The novel Coronavirus pandemic halted production on the show back in the spring, cutting Season 16 short by a few episodes. Normally, the new season premieres in September, but that could be a lot to ask for this year. The cast and crew only recently got together for a table reading. According to Us Weekly, filming is scheduled to resume on September 8.
In the meantime, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo recently answered some fan questions and teased Season 17 content on Twitter. Apparently, fans can expect to see a new couple this year.

After several guesses, Pompeo eventually revealed she was speaking about Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and her new love interest, played by Anthony Hill.
“Ding ding ding ! You guys… you have no idea how adorable they are,” she Tweeted.
Anthony Hill joins Season 17 as a series regular and plays Dr. Winston Ndugu. It will definitely be interesting to see how Grey’s will handle it’s steamy love storylines amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
Grey’s Anatomy Almost Chose Not To Cover COVID-19
Showrunner Krista Vernoff wasn’t a fan of covering the pandemic at first. She was struggling with pandemic fatigue and wasn’t sure if it was right to work it into the new season. After speaking with the Grey’s Anatomy team and real-life medical professionals, she changed her mind.
“They convinced me that it would be irresponsible to not,” Vernoff told The Hollywood Reporter. “To be kind of the biggest medical show and ignore the biggest medical story of the century felt irresponsible to them to the medical community. These doctors are traumatized. They are not trained or wired to hold the hands of dying people all day who are alone without their families.”
Fans will have to tune in to see. We don’t yet know when the new season will premiere, but Ellen Pompeo routinely updates fans on her Twitter account.
