‘Doubling Down With The Derricos’: With 14 Kids, The Food Bill Sits At Around $3,500

Doubling down with the derricos

Doubling Down with the Derricos on TLC premieres in just over a week. The highly anticipated show features Deon and Karen, their 14 kids, and extended family. Interest from fans runs high and Deon said they get swamped by new fans asking them questions. In the meantime, snippets from the teasers and trailers emerge that give some insight into their lives.

Doubling Down with the Derricos – all those kids cost a lot of money

We reported that the family already attracts a lot of fans and trolls as well. Some of those trolls hate the idea of so many multiple pregnancies. And, some of them accuse them of breeding children that later become welfare cases. But we noted in our article, that Deon seems well-off and they live in a nice home. Plus, they apparently own a vacation home in Myrtle beach. Certainly, none of the kids look malnourished.

But, feeding and clothing all those kids must stretch the budget for the Doubling Down with the Derricos‘ family. People noted that from the teaser they shared, they spend in the region of $3,500 per month on food. In June 2005, the Food and Nutrition Service USA noted that it cost between $800 and 1300 or so to feed a family of four back then. So, multiply that by the 16 people in the family, and the average costs aren’t excessive. But still, a bill that size really would hurt the average person. In 2017, the median salary in the USA worked out to around $3,714 per month.

None of the kids look hungry despite the huge food bill

Nobody wonders if the kids in the massive Duggar family from Counting On go hungry. And, their kids numbered more than 14. Of course, it’s possible the Derricos get some sort of sponsorship. After all, a quick search around Google reveals media and TV coverage for them goes back some years. But, potentially, they possibly obtain some sort of state assistance. Some speculation and rumors arise on YouTube, that Deon got into trouble over fraud charges. But, he sat down with KTNV in 2018 and explained he got “cleared from all charges.”

According to Networth in 2002, the Doubling Down with the Derricos dad’s net worth sat at $700k. But, conflicting reports put it as high as 6 million. Of course, with several years of TV coverage and some articles, it’s possible they got some donations. Where all the money to buy those groceries comes from really seems unclear at the moment. No doubt, the reality TV show with TLC helps pay for some of those meals in the years to come.
