‘Below Deck Med’: Captain Sandy Yawn Reveals She’s Looking For More Yacht Chefs
Attention Below Deck Med fans who love to cook. Captain Sandy Yawn is looking for a good chef or two. Or three or four. The captain from Below Deck Mediterranean series announced on Twitter that she’s taking resumes from good chefs.
This comes after Monday night’s intense episode. Chef Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran found himself at the crossfires of Captain Sandy. She was concerned about his culinary skills after he haunted her with nachos during Vegas night. Fans are convinced that he might leave the show after the charter season ends. While Kiko is the most optimistic chef the series has ever had, he’s clearly struggling with the guests’ meals.
Captain Sandy Yawn wants more chefs to apply
The Below Deck Med captain took to Twitter to share that she wished more yacht chefs would apply to join the show. Captain Sandy Yawn has had many problems with chefs in the last two seasons.
“Wish more yacht chefs would send casting their CVs and audition,” Captain Sandy tweeted. This came after chef Sandy Madewell shared her support for Kiko.

“Listen folks everyone on that boat has a team except THE CHEF!!!!” she argued. “Like to see ANY of you – #capt -get in there and do that job with ZERO HELP plus he has to feed all the crew!!!!! And doing different meals is HARD!! Hang in there Kiko #BelowDeckMed.”
But for Captain Sandy, finding professional chefs is a common problem. It sounds like she doesn’t get too many to choose from. Despite the criticism, Sandy insists that she wanted to see Kiko succeed this season. She even claims that she helped him out and he wasn’t totally on his own. Sandy even included some “fun facts” in her latest tweets.
“I want to see Kiko succeed,” Captain Sandy previously tweeted. “Fun fact: I helped do dishes at night so he could rest. This size yacht doesn’t have a sous [chef]. Chef is cooking for the same amount of guests as her BD guests. Fun fact: production takes the master for filming, so the Chef is actually cooking for less guests than the yacht accommodates.”
Will the Below Deck Med chef lose his job?
Fans think Malia White’s boyfriend, Tom Checketts, is the new chef who’s replacing chef Kiko. There’s no doubt that he’s had a challenging season from the start. In addition, Sandy’s micromanaging has put him under more pressure. Kiko hasn’t stepped up his cooking game for the past two charters.
It’s obvious that Sandy wanted to fire Kiko for his performance. He could sense it and asked her to let him go. But she insisted that they need to get through the next charter season together. Kiko responded, “Then I leave,” to which the captain merely nodded.

Below Deck Med fans hate the way that Kiko has been treated. But there are also theories suggesting that Sandy had plans for Malia’s boyfriend to become the next superyacht chef. As per Monsters & Critics, viewers slammed Sandy and Malia for making these plans. Viewers feel like Kiko’s storyline is a production set up and are not happy with the no-so surprising plot twist.
