Katy Perry pushes back new album in the funniest way possible
The singer revealed on social media to explain that her new album will no longer debut on August 14 as originally planned.
“Welp. I hate to throw this bad news at you like a pie in the face,” Katy wrote alongside a group of photos of her in full clown makeup while getting a pie in the face. She continued, “But if there’s anything 2020 taught me, it’s to not to get too attached to plans and be malleable. Due to unavoidable production delays, my album #SMILE will now be released weeks later on August 28.”
Katy does have some good news. She is launching her new web series called #SmileSundays, starting August 2, as per Entertainment Tonight. The Daisies singer shared the exciting news with her fans on Twitter.
“To make this up to you, starting this Sunday (Aug 2) and until the album drops (or until #Babycat … whichever comes first) join me for #SmileSundays!” Katy added. “Every Sunday, time TBA soon, I’m going to go on LIVE for 30 minutes or more and talk all things SMILE. ”
The Smile Sunday sessions will allow Katy and her fans to communicate virtually. She will also “play some snippets” of her new album. Katy also plans to debut her new merchandise to accompany her new album. In her series of tweets, Katy thanked her fans for their patience during these challenging times.
She also postponed her wedding to Orlando Bloom
This news comes after Katy Perry and her fiancé Orlando Bloom postponed their wedding for a second time. In a new interview with The Mirror, she said they would rather focus on “delivering a healthy child” as they prepare to welcome their baby girl into the world next month. The 35-year-old singer and the 43-year-old actor initially planned to get married last winter. Their next plan was to get married in Japan this summer.
“You can’t plan anymore in 2020 because those plans are always canceled,” Katy explained. “We just want to deliver a healthy child. Everyone has to take life one week at a time right now.”
Per Daily Mail, Katy echoed the same sentiments in her interview with Howard Stern. Back in March, Orlando revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic affected their wedding plans.
Smile is Katy’s fifth studio album. She wrote the title track during one of the “darkest” periods of her life. The new album will also include the previously released singles Never Really Over, Harleys in Hawaii, and Daisies.
A few months ago, Katy admitted that she felt depressed after her 2017 split from Orlando and her previous record, Witness, didn’t perform to her expectations.
