Bindi Irwin Discusses Marriage Under Lockdown
Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve Irwin, tied the knot in March with her longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell. The couple made the difficult decision to downsize their wedding plans due to the pandemic, however. Even though things haven’t been easy for the couple, they’re still managing to navigate through the crisis together.
She wrote in an Instagram post, “Despite everything, we got married and I’ll forever be grateful. Sure, things weren’t perfect but that’s life. Life is messy and beautiful and meant to be felt. We were overcoming great obstacles to prove that unconditional love is the most important foundation. Our wedding day wasn’t what we planned but it was an extraordinary starting point for our marriage to bloom.”
Navigating Through the Pandemic
Now, the Irwin family faces another challenge — keeping their zoo afloat during COVID-19. In an interview with Us Weekly, the family discussed obstacles they are currently struggling with. Austalia Zoo only recently got permission to reopen. Strict social distancing orders are in place and will be for the foreseeable future.
Bindi told Us Weekly, “We’ve dedicated our lives to conservation. Everything that we do at Australia Zoo is to inspire others to respect our planet and create positive change for the generations to come. I’m incredibly thankful that we’re open once again so that we can get back to our mission of protecting wildlife and wild places.”
The rest of the Irwin family seems to share in Bindi’s positivity. In the interview, Robert Irwin remarked how strong his mother and sister have been through the whole crisis. “I have the best family, we will always be a team even in the toughest times,” he says.

Bindi and Chandler didn’t have the wedding they always dreamed of, but that doesn’t seem to matter anymore. After seven years of dating, Chandler says marriage is something they both just really wanted. They married in a very small ceremony instead.
Due to the crisis, the original honeymoon plans seemed out of the question as well. According to Bindi, she and her family spent that time caring for the animals instead. They did manage to celebrate with a romantic picnic, however. Bindi describes how Chandler surprised her.
“Chandler is always my constant in life. No matter what is going on in the world he reminds me to find the sunshine in every day. He’s incredible and I feel very blessed to call him my husband,” she says.
We’re so happy everything worked out in the end! The pandemic may have put a damper on all of our spring and summer plans, but love is never canceled. We wish Bindi and Chandler a lifetime of happiness together. Keep following TV Shows Ace for more updates and news about the Irwin family.
