Jamie Otis Opens Up About Post-Partum Depression Diagnosis Following Son’s Birth
Married at First Sight alum Jamie Otis is always an open book with her fans. She shares the most intimate details of her life with those who follow her. She is very candid about the struggles she faces. Now, Jamie is sharing even more including her HPV diagnosis and now post-partum depression.
Jamie opens up about post-partum depression
She went to Instagram to share about her struggles and how hard it was for her to admit. Jamie shared she was diagnosed with post-partum depression at her six week checkup. This was also the appointment she was finally able to get her HPV checked out. She has no problem talking about the HPV, but the depression is another issue. She doesn’t want to look weak.
Jamie said, “I’m super comfortable being transparent about most things, but this one I’ve been terrified to admit out loud.” She said when the doctor uttered the words post-partum depression she instantly felt like she wasn’t good enough or strong enough to fight the hormones. Of course, being a nurse she knows that is not right to feel that way, but one can’t help it.
Jamie also admitted she has struggled with depression throughout her life. She said, “I’ve struggled with depression for forever so this isn’t entirely new to me. I don’t talk about it much bc I’ve always felt “less than” bc of it — or like I’m diseased — which is kinda funny bc I have no shame in sharing about my HPV diagnosis 🤦🏼♀️🤣.”

She talks about who she wants to be
Jamie went on in her post talking about the kind of mother she wants to be. She also talked about the kind of person she wants to be in general. She said, “When I think of the person I want to be it isn’t a depressed Debbie-downer. I want to be the happy one always encouraging others and making them smile.” Jamie continued, “When I think of the kind of MOM I want to be, I want to be the attentive one who never tires of getting down and playing with my kiddos.”
Jamie admits her mom has suffered from mental illness and she watched her struggle at times. She said she watched depression take over her mom at times. Now, she’s deeply terrified depression could take her over too.
Ultimately, Jamie thought if she just kept quiet about it the depression would just go away. Obviously that is not the case. So, she’s admitting her truth and being open about it all.
Jamie talks about the future and coming out of her depression
Jamie said, “I am committed to coming out of this funk stronger, happier, & a better mom. I’m
also vowing to be more open about my struggles with depression & anxiety bc it affects far too many of us.”
She feels very fortunate to have access to treatment such as medication, therapy and tons of support.
Jamie wrapped up her post saying, “I’m a true believer in speaking our truths & sharing them bc it takes a heavy weight off our shoulders. Life can be tough but none of us have to go through these struggles alone. If you’re silently struggling too, I’m here for you.🙏💗.”
If you know anyone struggling with depression encourage them to seek support.
