The news of Waters’ passing first comes on June 10 and initially, the cause of death is unknown. However, the cause is now revealed.

This Is Us writer Jas Waters has died

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office releases the cause of death. Her passing is ruled a suicide. As reported by People, tragically, the hugely talented writer, Jas Waters, dies by hanging. Meanwhile, news of her passing came as the writers of This Is Us share a moving tribute to Jas.

In the message, they write that the entire This Is Us family is devastated at the news of Jas Waters’ passing. The tweet continues, saying Jas has left her mark on them during their time together. Moreover, she has left her mark “all over the show.” The @ThisIsUsWriters account writes Jas “was a brilliant storyteller and a force of nature.” The writers continue by offering their deepest sympathies to Waters’ loved ones.

Obviously, everyone on the cast and crew is devastated over the news of Jas’ passing. Dan Fogelman, the creator of the show, says the news took his breath away. Dan writes that “Jas was absolutely brilliant and had so many stories still to tell.” Fogelman signs off, saying Waters has made an “indelible mark” on their show. He adds that his heart breaks for her loved ones.

Jas Waters and her writing career

In all, Waters wrote 18 episodes of the NBC drama, This Is Us. She also reveals her talent in other shows. Jas is known for her work on Jim Carrey’s Kidding and on Hood Adjacent with James Davis. On top of this, Jas has also worked on the film What Men Want.

Besides her TV and film writing work, Waters also wrote for Vibe under the name JasFly. Furthermore, she featured on The Gossip Game, a VH1 reality show about hip-hop radio and TV personalities, bloggers, and other media figures in the music industry.

This Is Us stars pay tribute to Waters

Wednesday sees This Is Us stars paying tribute to the talented writer on Twitter. Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate Pearson, tweets to say they were graced with @JasFly on the show as a fantastic writer. She adds that to know Jas and “her beautiful spirit was to love her.” Moreover, Chrissy says she is praying for a beautiful transition for Jas, writing “May it be full of love, light and peace.” Metz closes by thanking Jas for the time they had shared, as well as her fearlessness and inspiration.

Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca Pearson, movingly tweets, “Sending love and light to @JasFly’s family and loves ones,” with a series of hearts.

Susan Kelechi Watson plays Beth Pearson on This Is Us. In her tweet, she writes to say how “incredibly shocked and saddened” she is to receive this news. In a moving closing, Watson says, “Blessed Light, fly with the angels.”

Other messages of sympathy for Jas Waters’ passing

Waters’ management team, Rain Management, also send their condolences. In their tweet, they say it is with “extremely heavy hearts” that all of them mourn the loss of their client and friend, Jas Waters. The tweet refers to Waters as a “talented & gifted writer, an amazing person & a sweet soul.” On top of this, they write she will be forever missed, adding that Jas’ “impact will be felt for years to come.”

The creator of Kidding, Dave Holstein, also sends out a touching message. He writes that Jas “was a one-of-a-kind voice.” Dave says she was integral to their Kidding writing team. Moreover, Holstein calls it is a “devastating loss” to those close to Waters. In closing, Dave also mentions a favorite line of Jas’, saying it resonates loudly with him that day, “Our scars do not mean we are broken. They are proof we are healed.”

The world has certainly lost a talented writer and an amazing and beautiful woman. RIP Jas Waters.
