Below Deck Med star Captain Sandy Yawn said that the yachting industry won’t be the same again. The coronavirus pandemic forever changed the travel and entertainment industry. Both industries are on hold as the entire world practices social distancing and self-isolating. The female captain is sharing her insights into how COVID-19 affected the yachting industry. She also gave fans a glimpse into what luxury yachting could look like once the pandemic ends.

Captain Sandy Yawn reveals how coronavirus will affect the yachting industry

Below Deck Med star Captain Sandy Yawn spoke exclusively to E! News about the yachting industry. It’s expected to change after the coronavirus pandemic ends. Everyone will have to get used to the new world, including crew members and charter guests. As of right now, the yachting industry is on a standstill.

“They’re pushing their charters further into the summer,” Captain Sandy Yawn said. “So typically, the charter season starts with a Grand Prix, the Cannes Film Festival and Grand Prix, Monaco Grand Prix, and that got pushed.”

Due to the health and safety precautions, Captain Sandy Yawn revealed that the yachting industry will start “doing the same thing” when it comes to comprehensive health screening.

“Personal protection, equipment, tests before you get on board, temperature checks,” Sandy explained. “And I think all the yachts are going to do that. But it’s not going to stop the industry. I mean, they’re still chartering, but they’ll go through all the testing and we’ll have those scanners on board to check the temperatures.”

As for the crew members, they will no longer bunk together. They will be isolated. The crew no longer sleeps ashore. While it can affect the work, they’re still planning to charter. They’re currently finding new ways to safely work together onboard.

Captain Sandy Yawn says that Below Deck Med Season 5 is the “most explosive” season yet

Per the BravoTV.com blog, Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 premieres Monday, June 1 at 9 p.m. ET. Captain Sandy Yawn teased the upcoming season. She revealed that it will be just as crazy as the last. Back in April, Sandy took to Twitter to tease more of what’s to come from Below Deck Med.

“Are y’all ready for #BelowDeckMed from Mallorca?” Sandy wrote. “I was there, and I don’t think I’m ready. This season we have a lot of mayhem and merriment in the Med!”

This is proof that the new season will be dramatic. Captain Sandy also revealed that it will be “the most explosive season yet.” It’s also the first time in Below Deck history that there will be a female captain, a female chief stew, and a female bosun. Hannah Ferrier will return to her longtime role in the interior, while Malia White returns to Below Deck Med as the lead of the exterior.

“So excited to have the first female bosun in #BelowDeck Herstory!” Captain Sandy exclaimed on Twitter.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
