Kardashians Change Out IPhones Weekly To Film ‘KUWTK’ Safely

The Kardashians

The Kardashians have been in quarantine since March which would have halted filming on the show. But, Kris Jenner and the rest of the Kardashians are coming up with a way to deliver content to fans. An executive producer of Keeping Up With the Kardashians said her and Kris Jenner brainstormed ideas. Because they wanted to continue filming, but also keep everyone safe and healthy Jenner proposed that the sisters should film themselves.

Filming content sounds simple, but the shows producers decided people would not like seeing low-quality footage. One of the first changes in production was to introduce new iPhones. According to the EP, someone exchanges new iPhones for the ones containing the footage. The Kardashians each film around 16 hours of footage, but that varies per family members.

Filming Inside Homes Is Not An Easy Thing

It was first decided that Kim, Khloe and Kourtney would film and share the content to an album. Apparently, the production team decided that wasn’t feasible because of low-quality footage.

However, they hired a director of photography and a technician to setup filming inside the homes. They put on a precautionary hazmat suit to enter the homes of the stars. They configured brightly-lit rooms in Kim’s mansion and Khloé’s Calabasas home. Phone-friendly tripods were setup, which were carefully cleaned with sanitary wipes to combat the transfer of any germs. The Kardashians then waited 24 hours before entering the rooms to avoid any potential COVID-19 contamination.

New Way Of Filming Makes Star’s More Appreciative

The Kardashians are used to filming on KUWTK, because the camera person is doing all the work. It’s a different story when you have to setup the camera and then film yourself. Difficulty aside, the new way of recording has led to a new candor with the Kardashians, which the EP say’s fans will be able to witness. She says, “Sometimes you’ll hear them mumbling under their breath, ‘Who knew a camera person’s job would be so hard?!'”

Apparently, Kourtney is the family member to film the least, but that’s not surprising since that’s been an issue in early episodes. “Kourtney is also trying to take a detox a little bit from her phone,” according to the EP. The EP said, “Kim’s home will have the most footage, watching Kardashian-West juggle four kids is really relatable. No matter how big her house is, four kids is four kids. It’s a lot.” As far as Khloe’s home the EP said, Khloe’s ex Tristan Thompson “really stepped up” and “showed a way more mature side of himself” during these times.

According to E! News you can watch the show and the Kardashians in September when they return, and you will see the new way of filming.
