American Idol finale airs May 17, new season announced

TV Shows Ace reported that the finale brings loads of entertainment. The Top 7 whittle down to the Top 5. The Top 7 include Arthur Gunn, Dillon James, and Francisco Martin.” Then, there’s Jonny West, Julia Gargano, Just Sam, and Louis Knight. Before the Top 5 reveal, the contestants join previous contestants and the judges to perform “We Are The World.” Fans will see Alejandro Aranda and Laine Hardy amongst the singers.

Then, after the Top 5, more treats follow. Katy Perry  performs “Daisies.” Then, the Top 11 perform. Plus, Douglas Kiker returns. Luke Bryan sings his single “One Margarita,” and much more. For American Idol fans who eternally hope for a continuation of the show, good news arrived. Another season already was announced ahead of the current finale. Variety reported that “The news comes just days ahead of the Season 3 finale.”

Technically, Season 19 was just announced

The show’s currently presented by ABC. Retired by Fox in 2017, ABC went for the chance, and ratings still seem very popular. The next season, (the 19th overall) will be the 4th under ABC. Variety said that a date never got set yet. And, given the coronavirus, maybe that comes later. Fans also don’t know if Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan return. Now Katy expects her first baby, so maybe she will choose to move on.

Whatever happens, no doubt fans tune in again next year for more great talent on American Idol. As for the finale on Sunday, Gold Derby predictions show that Arthur Gunn’s leading polls to win. He’s followed by Jonny West, Francisco Martin, and Just Sam. Next comes Julia Gargano. The outcome’s not necessarily set in stone though. Bear in mind, last year right up until the last moment, Alejandro Aranda led Laine Hardy in the winning stakes.

Renewal in the light of fairly good ratings

ABC probably opted for a renewal of the show because ratings remain quite good. The Hollywood Reporter noted that “American Idol and 60 Minutes retained their spots atop Sunday’s broadcast ratings, (April 12).” Despite the show carrying on with remote recordings, popularity still remains high. Fans also enjoy it when previous contestants return. This year, many fans hope for more of Douglas Kiker.
