‘American Idol’: Katy Perry Opens Up About Mental Health During Pregnancy
American Idol judge, Katy Perry, and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom are expecting their first child. The couple recently announced that the baby is a girl. People reports that the songstress “is getting real about her mental health amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”

Katy shares the baby news with her fans in the music video for, “Never Worn White.” The video shows Katy cradling her baby belly. The video premiered on March 5th. Then, on April 3rd, Katy shares a photo of Orlando covered in pink cream simply captioned, “It’s a girl.”
Katy on Navigating Motherhood During the “New Norm”
People explains that three days prior to the real tweet, Katy was assisting efforts to “raise awareness and donations for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.” As part of the efforts, Katy sang during the digital entertainment festival, SHEIN Together. 1.6 million people turned tuned into the event, according to People.
Truthfully, Katy tweets, “sometimes i don’t know what’s worse trying to avoid the virus or the waves of depression that come with this new norm.” Come to find out, the pop star isn’t alone in her thoughts. Of notable followers, Rosie O’Donnell responds with, “totally feel ya.” Vera Wang responds, “hang in there firework.”
During this time, Katy gets real about her journey into motherhood. “I have five good days, and to days where I just cry when I look down at my toes, you know? I think a lot of that is probably hormonal,” Katy shares with fans.
Staying Positive During Trying Times
Heartwarmingly, Katy goes on to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. “I want to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mother’s Day. I’m so excited and I think, read, to join your club! I hope you’re all doing well and staying safe, love you.”
While wearing an elephant costume, the American Idol judge, Katy Perry, sang as Dumbo’s mom, Mrs. Jumbo, on ABC’s Disney Family Singalong: Volume II. One fan thanked Katy for bringing “smiles and laughter during these uncertain times.” Katy writes back, “it helped me get my smile back.”

Additionally, Katy relates to fans on Facebook life. “I’ve had to reschedule many plans. And not like everyone does a babymoon or a baby shower, but I’m not sure I’m gonna be able to do any of that. I’m just taking it one day at a time,” she shares. Continuing to find the silver lining, Katy says, “There’s a lot to think of… I’m grateful that I’m not giving birth tomorrow. It’s a one-day-at-a-time situation, always being open to the unknown and exploring options.”
Katy goes on to express the importance of family, as she says, “Even though I can get highly annoyed by being quarantined with my family in close quarters- I’m used to jet-setting and being really busy- now I feel we’ve laid a new foundation within our family, [that] there’s a bond that’s even stronger.”
