Andy Cohen Dishes on Which ‘RHOA’ Star Almost Got Fired After Her Rookie Season
Porsha Williams joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta along with Kenya Moore for Season 5. At the time, Porsha’s husband was Kordell Stewart. Porsha wasn’t an immediate favorite of either the fans or her co-stars.
Porsha is now one of the staples of the Bravo reality show. Viewers have seen her dream of having a baby come true. She’s currently embroiled in a complicated engagement to her baby daddy, Dennis McKinley.
Bravo exec Andy Cohen reveals some surprising dirt about Porsha’s boring first season, Reality Blurb reports.
RHOA’s Porsha Williams Almost Didn’t Make it to Season 6
Porsha’s first marriage was on full display, warts and all, during her first season. The duo often fundamentally disagreed on issues, especially about having children. Still, Porsha and fans were blindsided when Kordell announced he was divorcing the reality star shortly after the season ended.
The divorce filing came one week after Porsha strenuously defended her marriage and Kordell’s “controlling” behavior at the RHOA reunion. In late January, the Bravo executive appeared on The Jenny McCarthy Show to discuss the Real Housewives franchise’s casting process.
According to Andy, the producer discussed whether to bring Porsha back for another season. He implied that the show was leaning toward letting her go until something clicked at the reunion tapings.
The Watch What Happens Live host says,
She gave a two minute soliloquy about who she was and how she was going to live her life going forward and this was not going to define her and she’s stronger than this.”
Andy admitted that fans, producers and even he himself underestimated her. He cited how she’s become a main player on the show. Porsha is one of the more popular cast members on the RHOA cast.
What Factors Into Deciding Who Returns for Another Season
Ever wonder how to get your favorite Real Housewives stars a return engagement? Andy revealed to Jenny McCarthy what the Bravo producers look for when casting the show.
According to Andy, a mixture of focus groups and social media platforms to gauge the popularity of each existing Housewife. He says,
We do focus groups every season of Housewives, we do massive research.”
Usually the producers already have a needle on how various cast members rank with the audience. However, Andy says sometimes someone is more popular than they previously thought.
Two Stars of The Real Housewives of Orange County Recently Quit
The casting process is interesting, considering the recent cast shake-up on another Real Housewives franchise. Long-time cast members Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson chose to walk away from RHOC instead of taking on reduced roles.
TV Shows Ace wrote that the age of the women didn’t factor into Bravo’s decision. Given Andy’s comments, focus groups and fan feedback may have cost Tamra and Vicki their jobs.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta returns to Bravo on February 9th for the second half of Season 12.
Bravo has yet to announce when The Real Housewives of Orange County will return to the schedule.
