‘America’s Got Talent’ Gabrielle Union Thanks Fans for Support After Firing
America’s Got Talent might have to change its name to America’s Got Gabrielle Union’s Back. A bombshell report by Variety detailed the toxic backstage culture at the hit NBC show that led to the departure of Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough.
According to the report, Gabrielle and Julianne were fired after just one season. The report alleges that Gabrielle expressed concerns to the show’s head honchos, including Simon Cowell, about racist jokes and sexist behavior by the crew.
Julianne Hough Denies AGT Toxic Culture
In a statement, Julianne Hough denied the allegations of backstage drama. It’s important to note that the former Dancing With The Stars dancer has upcoming projects with NBC that she may not want to put in danger.
“I had a wonderful time on America’s Got Talent. I loved working with the cast, crew and producers.”
For their part, NBC also denied any claims of inappropriate jokes or issues on the set. They cite their inclusiveness and “refreshing” the cast as the reasons for the unexpected departures.
Dwyane Wade Defends His Wife, Says He is Still Waiting for ‘Good Reason’ for Firing
Gabrielle married basketball player Dwyane Wade in 2014. The couple welcomed their first child last year after numerous miscarriages and fertility struggles. After the news broke about the AGT drama, Dwyane took to Twitter to defend his wife.
His first tweet seems to confirm that a toxic culture was the reason for Gabrielle’s departure. Dwyane mentioned his wife’s advocacy. He also wrote that he hadn’t heard a good reason for the firing.
“So when i got the news that my wife was being fired—my first question was obviously why!? Iam still waiting on a good answer to that question. But if anyone knows @itsgabrielleu or have heard of her you know she’s an advocate for our community and culture.”

Gabrielle Breaks Silence on AGT Firing
After her husband said his piece about the situation, Gabrielle broke her silence, People reports. While she didn’t address the controversy directly, she thanked her fans for their support. Her tweet did seem to reference the drama, however. She mentioned feeling lost and adrift.
“So many tears, so much gratitude. THANK YOU! Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone… you got me up off the ground. Humbled and thankful, forever”

Grey’s Anatomy Star Sides With Gabrielle, Calls Out NBC
Anyone who uses Twitter regularly knows Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is not afraid to speak her mind. The actress spoke out in support of Gabrielle while calling out NBC for not learning from the Matt Lauer scandal.
“It’s unfortunate that @nbc the same network that protected disgusting men like Matt Lauer and punished women for speaking out or not putting up with it…has not changed their practices or culture. I support @itsgabrielleu commitment to speaking up to injustice. It takes courage”
