Season 28 of Dancing With The Stars is full of controversy until the very end. After a season of Spicer-gate and early eliminations, host Erin Andrews found herself under fire from fans after Monday’s finale for her reaction – or rather, her non-reaction, – at the Mirrorball winner.

DWTS Season 28 Controversies

No one had even danced yet when the complaints about the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars began. Some fans and even host Tom Bergeron found the inclusion of Sean Spicer to be problematic. Sean served as White House Press Secretary for President Trump.

As the season progressed, at-home voters kept Sean safe from elimination despite having the lowest scores most weeks. President Trump even tweeted asking fans to vote for “good guy” Sean. Fans were getting fed up when contestants such as Sailor Brinkley-Cook were sent home while Sean stayed in the competition.

Sean was eventually eliminated the week before Semi-Finals. However, a new controversy brewed when James Van Der Beek was sent home after being in the bottom two for the first time while the judges chose to save Ally Brooks, who has been in the bottom two several times before.

To add insult to injury, James revealed early in the show that his wife suffered a miscarriage just two days before Monday’s live show.

How Long Has Erin Andrews Co-Hosted The ABC Show

Dancing With The Stars has been through a surprising amount of co-hosts since the show first aired in 2005. Samantha Harris hosted from Season 2 to Season 9 when Brooke Burke-Chavert took over. Sports reporter Erin Andrews competed in the show’s 10th season.

She replaced Brooke as the co-host of DWTS at the start of the hit show’s 18th season. Fans often complain about her underwhelming backstage interview skills. When Hannah Brown was announced as the winner, many fans took notice of Erin’s reaction, which was no reaction at all.

DWTS Co-Host Defends Herself From Fan Backlash

Us Weekly reports that Erin took to Twitter to respond to some of the comments fans were tweeting to her. One fan accused her of looking less than impressed with the winner, but Erin says she was trying to be respectful to the losing couple.

“Give me a break. YOU CAN’T WIN IN THIS SITUATION. I’m standing next to the couple that just got second place. And if I had cheered, you’d be killing me for going against the Kel, Lauren, and Ally. Not that serious people!”

When fans pointed out her enthusiastic reactions to previous winners, such as Bobby Bones last season, the co-host doubles-down on her defense.

“Ahahahah you don’t get it. In this day and age, we can’t say a thing. You’ll get killed no matter what. I have to look dead into the camera bc people are threatening you don’t like a contestant. Sad, taken the fun out of it! Cheers!”

In this short clip on YouTube of the finale, Erin looks grumpy and unhappy from the moment Lauren Alaina gets 4th place.

While Erin may not be happy about the winner, TV Shows Ace reports that Hannah’s fans on social media were ecstatic about the former The Bachelorette star winning the Mirrorball trophy.

Dancing With The Stars is over for this season. However, a new season of The Bachelor premieres on ABC in January 2020.
