Netflix Doubles Down On Highly Anticipated ‘The Witcher’ Series
Recently, TV Shows Ace revealed when Netflix will drop The Witcher. Now, the streaming network has renewed the series an additional season before the first one even dropped. This is a strong indication that fans will be happy with the final result. What is the latest information on The Witcher?
Netflix Doubles Down On The Witcher
On Wednesday, Netflix decided to renew The Witcher to a second season. According to The Wrap, the streaming service ordered up an additional eight episodes, matching the total amount of Season 1 episodes.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich was quite excited. “I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.”
Hissrich didn’t share when they will commence filming. They have mapped out the six novels and two short story collections, into seven seasons of the Netflix series. They will not be using the games as fodder for the television series. But, gamers may find that the series will share some elements of the game than what was originally stated.
More Horror Than Fantasy
Those who expect the series to be more in the fantasy genre may be surprised. According to Games Radar, for SFX, who spoke to the show’s visual effects supervisor Julian Parry. He shared that the series will be more “grounded in horror.”
He continued that “We’re definitely taking the fantasy out.” He even cited a specific character, as he shared “For example, with Striga [the woman cursed to live as a monster], that’s one gnarly-looking thing.” Julian Parry emphasized the horror of this character with the words, “That’s very unpleasant!”
When Does The Witcher Season 1 Premiere?
As TV Shows Ace previously reported, The Witcher Season 1 starts on December 20. The new Netflix series will include Superman star Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Geralt is a monster hunter, living a solitary life as he tries to find his own place in the world.
Yet, destiny calls as he faces a sorceress with extreme power, and a princess that is keeping a secret. The unlikely trio must traverse the Continent and work together.
Cavill wanted this role before he was cast. The producers even saw 207 actors before going back and casting him. He is doing all of his own stunts. He is the living, breathing embodiment of Geralt of Rivia. It is not much longer til fans can see this highly anticipated Netflix series.
