Former ‘General Hospital’ and ‘DOOL’ Star Tyler Christopher Arrested for Public Intoxication
It’s been a shocking week for soap fans. First, the news broke that Days of Our Lives fired all of the cast while the show goes on an indefinite hiatus. Then TMZ reported that former soap star Tyler Christopher was arrested for public intoxication.
The mugshot on the gossip site shows the star looking disheveled with a heavy beard, very different from the clean-cut look he had on Days of Our Lives.
The reports don’t give any details regarding the behavior that ultimately led to Tyler ending up in jail. However, reports do indicate that he has yet to make bail and remains jailed for the time being.
DOOL Star’s Birthday Celebration Gets Out of Hand
Allegedly, Tyler was having a night on the town on Monday, November 11, to celebrate his 47th birthday. The “town” wasn’t Los Angeles, though. The incident occurred in Martinsville, Indiana.
In an interview earlier this year, Tyler opened up about moving his family from L.A. to Indiana due to cost-of-living. He also cited the distance as putting a strain on his family and marriage.
The longtime soap star chose to vacate his role of Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives to focus on his family and sobriety. He has been open about his struggles with alcohol addiction.
The role was recast with Brandon Barash, who also once appeared on General Hospital. Stefan was supposedly ‘killed off’ on DOOL recently, but rumors persist that Brandon was recently seen on set.
General Hospital Recently Recast Role of Nikolas Cassadine
As soap fans know, Tyler originated the role of Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital in 1996. He continued to play the role off-and-on for almost 20 years. Avid viewers noticed that the daytime drama began to name-drop both Nikolas and his son, Spencer Cassadine.
In the soap opera world, if a presumed dead character’s name suddenly comes up, that character is likely returning to the show. With that in mind, fans began to hope that Tyler would return to General Hospital.
In fact, Tyler received many comments on Twitter about his possible return to the role. This support prompted him to thank his fans for being sweet and loyal. He also stated that the door to returning to Nikolas was never closed. At least not on his side.
You are all very sweet to be so loyaI as you always are. I know they are talking about Nikolas as of late. I’ve always said I would never close that door from my side. I just want to thank you all for always rooting for me and the character. I grew up with him as many of u have.

However, in a shocking twist, soap newcomer, Marcus Coloma, took over the role of Nikolas Cassadine. It’s possible that this news contributed to Tyler’s relapse.
What’s This About DOOL Stopping Production??
Any soap fan knows that the number of soap operas on the air has dwindled to just four. General Hospital, Bold & The Beautiful, Young & The Restless and Days of Our Lives are the only surviving soap operas.
News broke this week that Days of Our Lives had released every cast member from their contract. Essentially firing the entire cast. The show tapes 8 months in advance. Since they have enough filmed to last until summer of 2020, the head honchos decided to take a hiatus from production to save money.
Sources say that the show is in talks for a renewal with NBC. If the show is renewed, the actors would then be given an option to sign new contracts, likely at reduced pay than their previous contracts. What is an attempt to save the soap opera may ultimately be the end of Days.
Tune in to Days of Our Lives weekdays on NBC. The beloved soap opera recently jumped one-year into the future and the shake-ups have fans at the edge of their seats.
