‘Shameless’ Season 10: Could Fiona Gallagher Make An Appearance?

Emmy Rossum as Fiona Gallagher Not on Season 10 Instagram

Shameless Season 10 kicked off last week. As those who watched Season 9 of the series know, Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) is no longer a member of the cast. Naturally, Shameless fans have a lot of feelings about this. They, however, have one massive question.

Will Fiona Gallagher make an appearance in Season 10?

The first episode of Season 10 may have been a little hard for some Gallagher fans as Fiona wasn’t anywhere in sight. It, however, appears as if Debbie Gallagher (Emma Kenney) will be doing what she can to step into her sister’s shoes. She, however, has made it clear she thought her older sister was a bit of a doormat. And, she has no intention of being the family maid.

Refinery 29 seems to speculate the chances of a cameo of the eldest Gallagher sibling during Season 10 is highly likely. In fact, she technically made an appearance during one of the many Season 10 trailer teasers. There is a brief clip in one of the trailers where viewers see a phone ringing with Fiona’s name flashing across the screen. It, however, is unclear if anyone answers the phone or if she leaves a voicemail.

Emmy Rossum was never permanently saying goodbye to the series.

During interviews, Emmy Rossum made it clear Fiona Gallagher was not permanently out of the Shameless series. In fact, the creators made it clear the character was always welcomed to return if she wanted to come back.

“I’ve learned a lot about myself as a person and as an actor. I want to leave the show while I still love it, and I know the door is open to come back if that feels right.”

So, then it really just becomes a question of if it “feels right.” Technically, Fiona isn’t the first Gallagher to exit the show. Ian (Cameron Monaghan) exited the show last season. He only appeared during the first half of Season 9. He, however, decided to return for Season 10. His schedule opened up. His character had an interesting story line. And, Mickey (Noel Fisher) returned as well.

During interviews, Rossum also made it clear Fiona Gallagher was not permanently leaving her family. She said it would help fans to understand it was as if her character was just moving to another state for a while.

“I would never close my door on the family. Like I said in what I wrote and what I said to them repeatedly, they should just think of me being down the block. I’m just in New York. It’s not like I’ll never be in L.A. or Chicago [where they film the series] ever again, so I’m not that far away,” she told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year.

At the very least, Fiona Gallagher should return when the series concludes.

Regardless of if we will see Fiona Gallagher in Season 10 of Shameless, it is a pretty safe bet she will return for the Series Finale. While we don’t know when the series will end, we do know how the U.K. version of the series ended.

In the U.K. version, Fiona was not in the show for very long. She, however, did come back for the finale. So, it would make sense for the U.S. version to do the same thing.
