Abbie Duggar Keeping Nursing Career With Plans to Return After Pregnancy

Abbie Duggar

If you thought Abbie Duggar would become a stay-at-home-mom after giving birth to her first child with husband John Duggar, you’d be wrong. That’s not the immediate plan. In fact, recently, she opened up about keeping her nursing license in case she needs it.

Talks of Abbie Duggar Returning to Work

Abbie Duggar told Us Weekly that she has transferred the license from Oklahoma to Arkansas. She will keep up the education hours to keep the license up to date. Whether she goes back to nursing is another thing, but there is certainly nothing wrong with being prepared for whatever could happen next.

Since getting married, the couple has spent a lot of time traveling and just being with each other. Welcoming their first child will certainly be on their minds right now, but the two are definitely thinking about the future.

Right now, they haven’t talked about their plans. John and Abbie Duggar both say that the option is there, but that Abbie isn’t necessarily going to return to work. This is a conversation to have a little later once their daughter arrives safely, and possibly something to discuss when their daughter is older. However, it sounds like John is supportive of his wife returning to work should she choose to, whether it’s full-time or part-time.

Looking after a baby is certainly hard work. However, it’s admirable that the former 19 Kids and Counting star and his wife are open to returning to work. There’s a lot of pressure on mothers staying at home, but that doesn’t work for everyone. Some women need both work and their children to feel fulfilled, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

A Difficult Pregnancy

The pregnancy hasn’t been an easy one for the Counting On couple. Abbie suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, This was the same sickness that affected the UK’s Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge throughout her three pregnancies. It’s a severe form of pregnancy sickness that can lead to severe malnutrition and dehydration if not treated. Many patients are unable to keep anything, even water, down.

It was during visits to the ER due to the sickness that the couple found out they were expecting their first child together. However, it wasn’t all happy news, as Abbie hoped to find out in a much more positive environment. The best thing now is that both mother and baby are happy and healthy.

The two also just celebrated their first anniversary together. It’s certainly been a wild ride! They also celebrated the arrival of their niece from Kendra and Joe Duggar.

Counting On airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on TLC.
