The Voice first aired in 2011 and quickly became one of the top singing competitions on television. The show centers around four superstar judges that each build a team of singers from those auditioning. The twist is the judges don’t know who the contestants are or what they look like. The judges are facing away as the contestants appear on stage to perform.

The judges must pick their team by only listening to The Voice of the contestant. It is only after a judge has pressed the red button in front of them that their chair spins around to reveal the contestant. Season 1 featured Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, and Adam Levine as the judges. Different superstar singers have come to coach the contestants through the shows 16 seasons. None of the judges have been more devoted than Blake Shelton and Adam Levine who have been with the show since its premiere.

The Voice Season 3

Season 3 of The Voice was an epic season in which Cassidee Pope, lead singer of the band Hey Monday, stepped in the spotlight. She battled hard and became the first female winner of the show which gave coach Blake Shelton his second win.

However, there was another female superstar that appeared on the show. Jordan Pruitt was already a successful singer before stepping onto The Voice stage. She appeared on several soundtracks throughout the mid-2000’s including for the movie Air Buddies. Pruitt looked to The Voice to boost her career even farther.

Jordan Pruitt

Jordan was signed with Hollywood Records in 2005 with manager Keith Thomas by her side when she was just 14 years old. However, things have not been as glamorous as they may have appeared. She recently announced that she has filed a lawsuit against her former manager Keith Thomas alleging that he sexually abused her throughout her career. Jordan named Hollywood Records and its parent company, the Walt Disney Co.,  in her lawsuit. She claims that they did not protect her from a sexual predator. She said in a statement:

“Unfortunately, these large companies are primarily concerned with sales, money and charts. Too often they fall short of protecting the young talent that they are ‘supposed’ to be caretakers for.”

She added that she was “disappointed” in how Disney saw under aged talent as nothing more than a cash cow.

In a world where more and more sexual assault is being exposed in Hollywood, the action is still taboo in Nashville and the country music genre. There just are not as many country music stars coming forward with sexual assault accusations as there is in other entertainment sectors. Jordan commented on this saying:

“I am standing up and speaking out not only for myself, but for the countless victims across the world who have never been given the opportunity for justice.”

Her Legal Representation

Attorney Keith Davidson represents the singer. A Los Angeles Superior Judge granted a request to identify the accused in the lawsuit. The singer’s attorney issued the following statement:

“…Like far too many child stars, was exploited by the very people who should have been protecting her. Jordan’s innocence was robbed from her as she was systematically groomed, molested, and controlled by a predator employed by Disney, a company that sells happiness to children. Disney had a duty to protect Jordan from Keith Thomas, and failed at every step.”

Her attorney commended Jordan on having the courage to come forward.
