Duggar, Bates Kids Go To Bahamas To Help With Disaster Relief
In the past, members of the Duggar family have gone on mission trips. On Tuesday, several of the family members set out on a trip to the Bahamas for another type of mission work. Along with them are a couple of the Bates kids too.
You may know the Bates family from Bringing Up Bates on TLC. This family is friends with the 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On family. For years, Jana Duggar has been rumored to be courting Lawson Bates. Those rumors have been shut down multiple times.
Why are the Duggars and Bates going to the Bahamas?
Due to the recent hurricane, these two families have decided to help. On social media Tuesday, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar posted on their family’s Instagram account and their Facebook page.
They shared a photo of the group heading to the Bahamas. The family offered an explanation, saying, “John, Jana, Jason, and James took off early this morning with a medical and disaster relief team to the Bahamas to help after the massive devastation from #HurricaneDorian . They’re now on the ground! Please keep the team and all who’ve been affected by this horrific storm in your prayers!”

Who is on the trip to the Bahamas?
As Jim Bob and Michelle mentioned in their social media posts, John, Jana, Jason, and James are on the trip. Nathan and Lawson Bates are heading on the trip to help. In addition, Joy-Anna Duggar’s husband, Austin Forsyth, is going along.
On Tuesday, Joy-Anna shared a selfie with her husband on their shared Instagram account stories. She captioned it, “Hard goodbyes! But so thankful that he can use his EMT skills to help others.”
Joy-Anna also reposted the photo that her parents shared. In the comments, a fan asked, “In what capacity is Austin volunteering with the medic team? Is he certified as an EMT or Paramedic?” In response, Joy-Anna simply said, “Austin is a certified EMT.”
Has the group made it to the Bahamas?
The Bates family posted on Instagram and provided an update about the journey to the Bahamas. Because Lawson was traveling with the Duggar kids, the update tells where they all are. The Bates family shared,
“Lawson traveled with the team in a plane and made it safely to Nassau, and from there they will assist other islands with rescue, medical care, and delivery of water and other supplies. Nathan is flying in a helicopter, but had to stop in Great Harbor Cay to wait on water levels and wind to drop. He’s hoping to fly further this afternoon. He said thousands are stranded and in desperate need, so we ask for prayers for safety and we want to lift up all of those in the many Islands of the Bahamas that are in dangerous conditions!!“

On his own social media account, Lawson provided his followers with a video update on Tuesday. We’re sure that the Duggar and Bates kids will continue to share updates as they can while on their trip.
