Duggar Fans Upset About Kids Wearing Skirts For Hike

If you’re a fan of the Duggar family, you likely know about their strict rules for their children. One of those rules is that the girls must wear long skirts and modest shirts. At one point, Michelle Duggar explained this to TLC and said, “I felt like the Lord was saying to me, ‘You know what, you probably shouldn’t be wearing that. It’s a little bit low cut, or a little bit too high, you know?’ I just really felt like I needed to obey what God was saying to me first and understand later,”

Of course, a couple of the older children have started wearing pants and tank tops. This is only once they have gotten married and have families of their own. They no longer live under Jim Bob and Michelle’s roof so they can do as they please. As for the girls living at the home in Arkansas, they must wear modest clothing, even if they are swimming, playing, or hiking.

Girls hike in skirts, sandals

One day, Jim Bob and Michelle shared a photo on the Duggar family’s Instagram page. It featured the two parents along with Jennifer, Josie, and Johannah. Their granddaughter, Mackynzie, went along with them. Their adopted son, Tyler, is pictured too. They write, “Beautiful day for a hike!! Happy Saturday!”

Something that is very noticeable is that the Duggar girls are wearing skirts or dresses and sandals. Nearly anyone would agree that this isn’t proper hiking attire. Still, it seems like the family is sticking to their modesty rules, even on a hike.

Fans react to picture of Duggar family on hike

In response to this photo, the Duggar family received a lot of backlash. Counting On fans don’t think it’s appropriate for the girls to have to hike in skirts or dresses. Here is what some of the fans of the family had to say:

  • “I like you guys but seriously let those girls at least hike and play in pants or shorts. Nobody’s eyes will fall out of their head and God will totally be fine with it.”
  • “How could you hike in skirts and dresses? Just wear pants. There is nothing evil or wrong with pants. Pants are not the devil. They are functional and practical.”

After seeing the comments, another Duggar fan added, “The family looks awesome and like they are having a great time! I think they are probably on an easy hike so dresses and sandals are just fine. I’m sure they would have worn more sturdy shoes if they needed them.”

What do you think about what fans are saying? Do you agree that the girls should be allowed to wear pants to make hiking easier? Leave a comment below!

The Duggar family will return to TLC’s Counting On in October. Stay tuned for a premiere date and more updates.
