‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ Star Reveals Son’s Heartbreaking Diagnosis
Former Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King Edmonds has been through it the last month. In mid-June, her husband’s affair was publicly outed. A week later, she posted a photo on Instagram of her son, Hart, in the hospital for an MRI.
At the time, she wasn’t specific as to what the MRI was for. She was optimistic about the results. Meghan posted a photo of her husband, Jim holding Hart. The photo was captioned “But Mommy and Daddy’s best part is the results,” indicating a positive MRI result.
Former RHOC Star Reveals Son’s Diagnose
Unfortunately, MRI results are rarely given the same day. The MRI results did not pan out the way she hoped they would. In an emotional post to her blog, Meghan reveals that her 13-month-old son, Hart, has “irreversible brain damage.”
In the devastating blog post, she details being told “he’s fine” but multiple doctors. She said she had to push for them to even give her son an MRI. Prior to the MRI results, Meghan suspected that her son had neurological issues.

The things that concerned her included, “the rigidity in his muscles…delayed physical milestones,” She also noted, “weakness in his lower back” and a “favored use of his right side.” Despite these symptoms, doctors repeatedly brushed the RHOC alum’s concerns aside.
What is PVL?
In her blog post, Meghan wrote that Hart’s condition is known as PVL. PVL stands for Periventricular Leukomalacia. It is a brain injury that means some of the brain tissue is dead, creating “holes” in the brain matter.
PVL often occurs in premature births, but Meghan’s twins were born full-term. The brain damage can lead to a later diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Meghan said her son will be monitored for that.
She reveals in her blog that her son is enrolled in physical therapy now that his diagnosis made him eligible.
RHOC Star “always knew” Something Was Wrong
Meghan wrote that she always knew that her son had a medical problem. She said, “From the minute he was born I knew something was different with Hart.” She explained that he had difficulty straightening his legs, suckling and uncrossing his eyes. Meghan seems almost relieved to finally have a concrete diagnosis. She views it as a “gift,” while also praying for a “miracle.”
Where Has Jim Been Through All of This?
Hart’s hospital visit and subsequent diagnose comes at a time when things are not great in the Edmonds’ marriage. A week before the MRI, Jim was outed for sending explicit messages to another woman. One of the messages was sent while Meghan was in the hospital having their twins.
However, Meghan’s Instagram photos often include Jim. She did say during her blog post about the affair that she didn’t plan to leave their marriage. In her new blog post, she reveals that the couple went out to dinner “for the first time in weeks” after the MRI results.
Meghan told Jim over dinner that Hart’s medical problems aren’t punishment, presumably meaning for his affair. She says that they are “blessed” by having a child with special needs. She wrote, “I truly feel as if we’ve doubled down and won the underdog hand.”
While Meghan left Real Housewives of Orange County to focus on her family, the show continues to march on. Season 14 premieres on Bravo August 6th at 9 p.m.
